One year at the public library.
A few years ago I worked at my public library as side job as I just started as an artist. I worked there for exactly one year. It was a fun job, though very low paced, which left me with lots of time to daydream. This led to writing stories, counting bookmarks I found, and reading notes people left in books when I had too much time on my hands. I recently learned that this “opruimhulp” job no longer exists at the library of Amsterdam. So this zines is a collection of my notes, findings and short stories as an ode to the job that no longer exists.
Water & Fire exposition
Water and Fire group expositions at NDSMfuse Amsterdam.
Title: Vuur
(oil paint)
Vuur, shows the personification of fire as lonely artist after the destruction of their own play. Once the fire is lit, it starts to preform in front of our eyes. It is drawing the audience and surroundings closer, but eventually will always turn her elegant moves into final destruction. Loneliness surrounds the eternal performer.
Dialogues at the river. exposition
Group exhibitions in LOSDOK Amsterdam.
The contrast in how water is viewed in the Netherlands is huge. We like to see it as a large organic force that is constantly moving and changing. On the other hand, we try to control it, express it in numbers and make it understandable.
This idea intrigued me and inspired the artwork.
